German commentary "We aim to demonstrate the theological roots of secularization, which we first identify in the debates within Jewish and Arabic philosophy of the Middle Ages, particularly in relation to Jewish Averroism. Its representatives, such as R. Itshaq Albalag, R. Itshaq Pulqar, and R. Eliah Delmedigo, adopted the theory of double truth in various ways. We analyze the impact this theory may have had on the Marranos, the skepticism they subsequently developed, and ultimately its influence on the formation of Spinozism." (Abstract)
