English commentary In the "bitter quarrel between scientistic naturalists and religious anti-naturalists" (p. 122), Spinoza takes, according to the author, in follwing Mark Johnston, a third way. Spinoza's "critique of theism presents", according to Mark Johnston, "not an abominable atheism but should be read, instead, as an attempt of purifying true belief." (p. 136)
