Jaquet, Chantal:
Critique de l'indignation : Désobéissance et obéissance absolue chez Spinoza
In: Obéissance et rébellion chez Spinoza = Revue Internationale de Philosophie 295, 1 (2021), 55-72
Literature type: Articles
Language: French
Thematic areas: Anthropology / psychology / doctrine of affections / body and mind, Philosophy of politics and law
English commentary: "This article considers the affect of indignation and criticizes the idea shared by many commentators of its constitutive role in the state, limiting it to a removal or custody function. It then shows that disobedience is not a civil right in Spinoza but falls under the law of war. It finally establishes that, contrary to all expectations, absolute obedience may consist in a refusal to execute orders." (abstract)
