Balibar, Étienne:
Locke o Spinoza : un punto di eresia

In: L'attualità di Spinoza = In Circolo. Rivista di filosofia e culture [8] 8, 5 (2019), 20-33

First edition in the original language: Französisch/French: Locke ou Spinoza : un point d'hérésie, in: La Pensée 398, 2 (2019): 144-153

Literature type: Articles
Language: Italian
Thematic areas: Epistemology / methodology / philosophy of mind, Contemporaries and context, Comparison of theories
Subject (individuals): Locke, John

English commentary: Summary: Relying on his previous inquiries, the author discusses theories of "consciousness" which were elaborated almost simultaneously by Locke and Spinoza, as a reaction against the Cartesian doctrine of self-certainty. Because of their remarkable analogies and their sharp antithesis, they illustrate a "point of heresy" which, even today, intrinsically divides any project of framing a "psychology" or"philosophy of mind".
